Parent Education
The Children and Youth Agency sponsors several programs within the community designed to strengthen families, increase parenting and life management skills, and link families to community resources as needed. The majority of these programs are open to the public and free of charge for participants.
COBYS Family Nurturing Program
This program is open to any parent living in Lancaster County who is interested in a parenting education program. Objectives include:
COBYS 3Rs Program
This program is geared towards parents and their children ages 11 - 18, and is open to any parent / child living in Lancaster County. The overall goal of this program is to strengthen family relationships, promote regular school attendance, and increase teen responsibility.
Participants will learn how to strengthen family and school bonds, increase understanding of school policy on attendance, school behavior, truancy, and school / community resources, communicate respectfully, and establish family policies regarding negative behaviors such as truancy, violence, and drug and alcohol use. Register by contacting COBY’s Family Life Center at 717-435-8139.
YWCA Parent Alliance (Family Support Group)
The YWCA of Lancaster is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The family support group is open to anyone, however, females are the primary clients. The YWCA offers various programs in which the support group members can participate. Parents receive referrals to other helping agencies as needed. Problems are discussed in a caring, supportive, non-judgmental manner. Confidentiality and anonymity is respected, except when the health or safety of a family member is at risk.
The support group offers a place where parents can talk about their concerns and receive support from other parents. The support group meets weekly at the YWCA on Thursday evenings. Childcare is provided. There is no cost to participate. For more information, contact the YWCA at 717-393-1735.

This is an educational and parent support program specifically for Latino families, and is designed to support and preserve the family unit. Objectives include:
Personalize Parent Training Program
This service, which is only available for active Children and Youth Agency clients, is designed to provide one on one parent education based on a family’s individual needs. Through a mentoring approach, various skills are addressed, such as:

- Improving cooperation and communication between family members
- Increasing positive interactions through play
