A group of Lancaster County police officers were recently recognized for their efforts to combat intoxicated driving.
Sixteen officers were given “Top Gun” awards for leading the county in DUI arrests in 2016.
Samuel Sanger, an East Lampeter Township police officer, had the most arrests of the group, with 64.
Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman, speaker at the June 20 event in Salunga, presented the officers with their awards.
Stedman commended the officers for work that is saving lives – of the DUI drivers themselves and other motorists on the road.
On average, between 1,500 and 1,700 DUI charges are filed each year in Lancaster County.
