A man was recently jailed for having a metal knuckle knife – a prohibited weapon – last year in downtown Lancaster.
Chad D. Howey, who had no permanent address, was convicted in Lancaster County Court of a misdemeanor count of possessing a prohibiting offensive weapon regarding the Oct. 16, 2016, incident.
A local jury deliberated for about an hour before returning its verdict April 4, according to Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart.
Following the verdict, County Judge Merrill Spahn Jr. ordered Howey, 39, serve 9 to 23 months in prison.
Swinehart presented witnesses that testified about Howey being in possession of the weapon on North Market Street (in a side alley).
City police officers stopped Howey for smoking what appeared to be synthetic marijuana. He also was convicted of a summary count of public drunkenness.
The weapon was in Howey’s pocket. The weapon was a Tac-Force Speedster Knuckle Knife – essentially metal knuckles with a folding, 3-inch knife blade (the type is depicted in photo).
Lancaster city police Officer Codi-Amanda Herr filed charges.
