An Elizabethtown man was recently taken to Lancaster County Prison for burglarizing a local church, stealing nearly $3,000 in checks, cash, and gift cards and drinking altar wine.
David G. Kuchar, of 58, was sentenced Friday in Lancaster County Court for targeting Christ Lutheran Church on East High Street in Elizabethtown on July 1, 2013. Kuchar lived about a block from the church.
Assistant District Attorney Travis S. Anderson, lead prosecutor, said in court that Kuchar essentially stole from the community when he took cash, checks and gift cards for area grocery stores.
Lancaster County Judge James Cullen ordered the following sentence:
- 3 months in Lancaster County Prison;
- 3 months on house-arrest;
- 17 months of parole
- Pay $2,892 in restitution
Kuchar said in court that he intends to pay back the money.
Police tracked the gift card theft to Kuchar when they located individuals who used the gift cards and claimed they received them from Kuchar.
Also, police obtained fingerprints from the burglary scene, which matched Kuchar.
Kuchar pleaded guilty last year to felony burglary and theft.
Elizabethtown police Detective Shane Deardorff filed charges.
