An Ephrata sex offender who repeatedly broke parole conditions by viewing child pornography, having social-media accounts, and refusing treatment will serve decades in state prison.
Devin Jay Garman, already convicted twice of having child pornography, recently pleaded guilty in Lancaster County Court to a third set of charges.
He will serve 25 to 50 years in prison, in accordance with a plea agreement arranged by the state attorney general’s office.
Garman, now 32, was charged in 2008 and 2010, by Manheim Township and West Hempfield police, and eventually pleaded guilty to felony possession of child pornography.
He served short prison terms and was placed on parole and probation. He wasn’t compliant with conditions which included limited computer and social-media access, and required sexual-offender treatment and counseling.
Last year, the attorney general’s Internet Crimes Task Force discovered sharing of child pornography from computers at an Ephrata home on Timothy Lane.
Attorney general agents, with assistance from Ephrata police, worked the case and eventually filed numerous counts of felony sex abuse.
Part of treatment for jailed sex offenders - required to be paroled - includes admission to their crimes.
Assistant Attorney General Christopher Jones prosecuted the case; Agent Daniel Hasenauer filed charges.
