Homicide charges were filed Thursday regarding the May 30 shooting death of Tyreek Gardner.

Lancaster city police charged two men with Gardner’s killing, the first of three homicides in a three-week span in the city.

In early July, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office and Lancaster city police made a joint request to the public for potential witnesses or individuals who might have information that could assist investigation.

Investigators did receive information that led to the charges filed in the Gardner case.

“We made a call to the community for assistance and information,” DA Craig Stedman said. “They responded, and this arrest is the result.

“Solving this crime was a top priority,” Stedman said. “This was a brazen crime which took place over a number of blocks in the city and involved multiple gunshots which cost one life and certainly put the community at risk.

“I appreciate the relentless dedication of the police.”

The investigation of Gardner’s death is ongoing. First Assistant District Attorney Travis. S. Anderson approved charges and is leading prosecution of the cases.

Investigators also asked for information regarding:

- June 12 stabbing death of 16-year-old Ben Ramos on Fremont Street;

- June 16 shooting death of Anthony Marshall on Lafayette Street.

Information can be provided by:

“Open dialogue with police absolutely makes our neighborhoods safer,” DA Stedman said.

All charged are presumed innocent.
