A Lancaster man will serve up to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman who was sleeping in a Manheim home.
Jordan A. Mayes, 24, was convicted at trial in April of four felonies and two misdemeanors regarding the June 10, 2017, incident at a home on East High Street.
The victim, a relative of an acquaintance of Mayes’, testified that she awoke to find Mayes assaulting her. She ran to a bedroom, locked the door and called 9-1-1.
Lancaster County Judge Merrill Spahn Jr. sentenced Mayes to 4½ to 10 years in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick, who won the conviction, asked the judge to consider Mayes’ lack of remorse and failure to accept responsibility.
Haverstick said Mayes concocted a fantasy story when he testified at trial.
The victim’s fear was apparent from her frantic 9-1-1 call, and a friend testified that her behavior changed and she constantly feared Mayes, according to Haverstick.
Mayes essentially had no relationship with the victim; he encountered her sleeping and assaulted her.
Judge Spahn called Mayes’ action inexplicable and pointed to Mayes’ lack of structure in life which consisted of hanging out and using substances.
Manheim Borough police Detective Jeffrey Kiesel filed charges.
