A Lancaster man was convicted Wednesday of sexual assault of a woman two years ago in Manheim.
A Lancaster County jury deliberated about 30 minutes before returning guilty verdicts against 24-year-old Jordan A. Mayes to six sex-abuse offenses – four felonies and two misdemeanors.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick presented evidence at the three-day trial that Mayes assaulted a relative of an acquaintance on June 10, 2017, at an East High Street home.
The victim testified that she awoke to find Mayes assaulting her. She ran to a bedroom, locked the door and called 9-1-1. Mayes fled the home.
Lancaster County Judge Merrill Spahn Jr., who presided over the trial, will order sentence after a background investigation is completed in a couple months.
At the verdict, Judge Spahn changed Mayes’ bail to $500,000 cash. Mayes was taken to Lancaster County prison; he was previously out after posting $100,000 bail.
Haverstick also called to testify several police officers and an expert who discussed Mayes’ DNA that was found at the crime scene.
Manheim Borough police Detective Jeffrey Kiesel filed charges.
The jury returned not-guilty verdicts to burglary and criminal trespass.
