A Carlisle man was recently convicted of groping a Lancaster County girl during a door-to-door sales trip last year when he attempted to sell replacement windows.
The Lancaster County jury deliberated just over an hour before returning guilty verdicts Friday afternoon against 20-year-old Austin Kann to counts of unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault without consent and corruption of minors.
Kann will be sentenced on May 15.
Assistant District Attorney Amy Muller presented evidence at the three-day trial that Kann was working for Renewal by Anderson when he assaulted the girl at a Warwick Township home. Kann was going door-to-door attempting to sell replacement windows, according to testimony.
A neighbor testified that he called 911 and pursued Kann after the victim’s relative told him what happened right after it happened. Police found Kann, wearing a work shirt, near the scene.
The victim reported that Kann came to her door and asked if a homeowner was home; she replied her parents were not home. Kann asked the girl to come outside and show him a window. At that point he groped her.
Northern Lancaster County Regional police Officer Matthew Hinkle filed charges. Officers from Northern Lancaster County Regional police and Lititz police assisted in the case.
Lancaster County Judge Howard Knisely presided over the trial and will order sentence after a background investigation is completed. The unlawful contact with a minor charge is a felony, the other two charges are misdemeanors.
Kann is out on unsecured bail, under restrictions per bail administration. He did not testify.
