The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office has been awarded a grant in the amount of $149,950.00 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, 2013/14 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, Single Solicitation for Local Initiatives.
Funding will be used for the purchase and deployment of a Leica (Geo Systems) ScanStation PS20 3D Laser Scanner. The ScanStation will be used for investigations by the Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit and the Lancaster County Major Crash Investigative Unit. Lancaster County SERT will also use the ScanStation for pre-scans of county buildings which are of security interest.
The ScanStation will enhance the investigative process by generating a 3D image of the crime or crash scene to within 2mm of accuracy. When presented in court; the generated images will allow juries to “walk through” the crime scene without leaving the courtroom.
The project goals are to improve the evidence collection process and quality of evidence collected while reducing overall investigative time.
