A Marietta man was recently sentenced to state prison for driving over 100 mph – while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana – crashing his car into a home last year in Mount Joy.
Arthur J. Reinhart III, 19, pleaded guilty in Lancaster County Court to numerous charges, including felony counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, regarding the June 8 crash on Fairview Road.
In exchange for the guilty plea, Reinhart will serve 3 to 6 years in prison, in accordance with a plea agreement arranged by Assistant District Attorney Ande Gonzalez.
Police determined Reinhart was driving 103 mph, in a 35-mph zone, when his car veered off Fairview Road, crashing into a home in the 200 block of Fairvew Road.
Two people in the home at the time were not injured. A passenger in the car sustained cervical fractures.
Testing showed marijuana in Reinhart’s system and a blood-alcohol level of .092 percent (the state’s legal limit for drivers is .08 percent).
At the sentencing hearing, an occupant of the home spoke and expressed hope that Reinhart could get the help he needs. The couple is still displaced from the home, due to extensive damages.
As part of sentence, Reinhart must pay $96,000 in restitution.
He also pleaded guilty to three counts of DUI, four counts of reckless endangerment, and a summary speeding violation.
Mount Joy police Officer Scott Drexel filed charges.
