License to Carry Permit Changes

As of 
June 1st, 2018, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will no longer process out of state Conceal Carry Permits. If you currently possess a Lancaster County Conceal Carry Permit and you are not a resident of Lancaster County, PA, your permit will no longer be valid upon expiration. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

NOTICE: DUE TO AN EXPECTED INCREASE IN PERMIT APPLICANTS, SAME DAY SERVICE MAY NOT BE PROVIDED.  WE APOLOGIZE IF THIS CAUSES ANY INCONVENIENCE. 

PERMIT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER 4:00 PM.

License to Carry Permit Details


An applicant for a license to carry permit must be at least 21 years of age and reside in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, or currently posses a valid permit in their state of residency. Proof of age and residency must be furnished when the application is submitted.

If you are a Lancaster County resident, you must provide a Pennsylvania driver’s license or Pennsylvania photo ID. A post office box will not be accepted as a legal residence. 

The application and any attached documents must be brought to the Sheriff’s Office in person. Payment is required when the application is submitted. See frequently asked questions for license to carry permit for more information.

Following an investigation by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police, the applicant will be notified whether the application has been approved or rejected. If rejected, a service fee of $5 will be withheld, and the applicant will receive a refund of $15.

The furnishing of false information or offering false evidence of identity is a violation of Section 4904. The Sheriff has the authority to revoke a permit for character and reputation.
