In 1995, Strasburg Borough and StrasburgTownship adopted the Strasburg Region Comprehensive Plan. This was the first joint Comprehensive Plans adopted in the history of LancasterCounty. This plan helped to establish the planning relationship between the two municipalities. Then in the year 2000, there were major updates to the Pennsylvania’s Municipalities Code. These changes greatly increased the ability for municipalities to work together on planning issues. In 2003, the Strasburg Region Joint Planning Commission began to review the 1995 plan and consider updates to the plan.As a result of this effort, the two municipalities have entered into an inter-municipal agreement along with the Lancaster County Planning Commission to update the plan.
This plan will focus on developing goals and objectives for the municipalities and layout a plan to reach those goals. The components of the plan include an overall assessment and inventory of the municipalities, natural and historic features, population figures, public facilities, transportation, housing, economics, and future land use.
