Heritage Planning
The Heritage Planning Division, created in 2003, oversees heritage related programs such as the Lancaster County Heritage Program and the Tourism Program, coordinates projects and activities with the Lancaster-York Heritage Region, and develops programs within the Susquehanna River Greenway. A program currently being developed is the Heritage Byway Program, expected to be launched this year. In addition, the division facilitates cultural heritage preservation planning practices at the municipal level, an ongoing process.
Amendments to the Municipalities Planning Code (MPC) in 2000 mandated that all county governments prepare a plan for the preservation of historic resources. The Heritage Division was charged with the task of creating this new element for the Lancaster County Comprehensive Plan and they are pleased to announce that the draft plan will be released February 8 for a 45-day public review period.
