Civil Service Hiring Process

These County Departments must use the State Civil Service Merit Hiring System to fill job vacancies.

  • Children and Youth Agency (CYA)
  • Drug and Alcohol Commission (D&A)
  • Mental Health/Mental Retardation (MH/MR)
  • Office of Aging (OOA)

If you are interested in working for one of these departments, it is important to take the first step and apply for Civil Service testing. It is recommended that you plan ahead and apply for testing IN ANTICIPATION of future vacancies.

Civil Service Job Titles used by the County of Lancaster are listed in alphabetical order.  If you click an underlined job title in the list, it will take you to the official Civil Service test announcement that contains such information as the nature of the work performed in the title; minimum education and training requirements; information about that specific test and test results.

When there is more than one title listed on the Civil Service test announcement, you should include every title that you qualify for on your application to test.

Click to apply for testing>  State Civil Service Website

Once you have successfully tested, we are able to contact you by mail and consider you for vacancies in that job title. Your test scores can be valid for employment consideration from a minimum of 1 year and as long as 3-4 years depending on the job title.

Specific job vacancies in the County's Civil Service departments are located here and are listed in CAPITAL LETTERS.
