Lancaster, PA (February 24, 2010) Today at their public meeting, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners provided a review of the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Program’s success in 2009. First initiated by the Commissioners on May 29, 2009, the program saved residents $186,302.27 on 10,590 prescription medications in 2009. “We consider this program a great success for our residents who have prescription medications not covered by an insurance program,” said Commissioner Scott Martin. “Because the card is free for residents to use, every dollar saved is money right back in their pocket.” In 2009, the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card program enabled residents to receive an average savings of $12.05 or 22.19% on their prescription medications. “NACo estimated a 20% savings and we are pleased to see that after 7 months into the program this holds true for Lancaster County residents”, said Commissioner Dennis Stuckey. At the meeting, the Board of Commissioners thanked their ‘Partners’-those who help to distribute the discount cards to Lancaster County residents. “This program would not be a success for our residents without the help of our partners”, said Commissioner Craig Lehman. “We thank them for this service to the community.” The Commissioners reported that in 2009, more than 138 entities have partnered with them to distribute the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Cards. The discount cards are now available at over 185 locations throughout the County. A complete list of locations can be viewed at www.co.lancaster.pa.us.
