Street Priorities - Declaration of a Storm Emergency

During snow and ice storms the Director of Public Works in conjunction with the Streets Superintendent, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Bureau Chiefs or their alternates, determines that a state of snow emergency exists and reports the emergency to the Mayor.

After the emergency is declared, the Director of Public Works will notify the Manpower Coordinators who will initiate the plan of action.

Upon receiving notice that a snow emergency has been declared, the Bureau of streets shall establish operations of the snow emergency center and shall organize its equipment and manpower in accordance with the snow emergency plan.

Immediately upon notification of the emergency and should the need arise, the Equipment Rental Coordinator will coordinate the hiring and scheduling of the various types of equipment needed to assist the city forces in combating the snow storm.
