Dear Residents,
I sincerely hope your summer is going well. Have you been out to a Saturday Market yet? Or perhaps attended one of our first Saturday “Music in the park” concerts? If not, we’d love to see you at the next event! You can follow us on the East Petersburg Day Facebook page to see photos and videos. The music’s been great, and the markets are an excellent source for locally-grown produce, prepared foods & baked goods, not to mention the variety of local artists displaying their creations. We have a truly diverse community, and the markets showcase that.
Speaking of “locally-grown” - it’s natural to feel that our individual actions won’t make much of a difference in the stewardship of our national natural resources. However, the decisions we make for ourselves and our families CAN have an impact – it’s called “the power of mass action”. In addition to the direct benefit to our households through reduced energy costs or improved health, our environmentally-friendly choices will help make East Pete a better place to live. From off-grid power systems to backyard organic gardens, we have a range of options available to us today.
East Petersburg Borough is committed to encouraging our residents to explore energy alternatives and sustainable practices. As new technologies become cost-effective, it is natural that families will begin investigating them and evaluating whether to implement them on their property. Since an important consideration of any onsite project is the regulatory policies and procedures, we’re publishing a simple guide for residents to use as a reference for many of the popular improvements on the market today. It’s a one-page snapshot of each of the major types of installations and what the borough requirements would be to proceed with them. It’s available online at our website as a download - I’d love to hear about it you are considering any sustainable living project or alternative energy installation!
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting you out at the park this summer.
All the best,
Jeff Geoghan
