EAST PETE BULLDOGS FOOTBALL CLUB
Est. 1949
The East Pete Bulldogs Football Club is a nonprofit, unincorporated youth club organized to provide children between the ages of 8 and 14 with the opportunity to participate in the sports of midget football and cheerleading. The East Pete Bulldogs are the oldest, continuous youth football organization in Lancaster County. A team photo exists that proves that the Bulldogs began play in East Petersburg in 1949! We have a unique and special organization here in East Petersburg, a small community-based youth organization as opposed to the larger, regional programs.
Approximately 100 children participate annually in football and cheerleading activities. Football is divided into three divisions by age and weight and at least 15 players must be eligible in order to field a team. Cheerleading age groups follow the age grouping for football.
A-Team Age 14 or younger by September 1 145 lbs. or under
B-Team Age 12 or younger by September 1 120 lbs. or under
C-Team Age 10 or younger by September 1 100 lbs. or under
The Bulldogs, in reality, are the Borough’s team. The Bulldogs are proud to say "WE ARE…EAST PETE!," and proud to represent the Borough when we invite teams to our home field. Players and cheerleaders are permitted to utilize the East Petersburg Community Park free of charge for all practices and home games, together with a separate equipment room contained within the Community Building. Also, the Club owns the "Football Building" located to the north of the Community Building, which was donated to the Bulldogs through the generosity of the East Petersburg Fire Company. Additionally, the Club uses the separate kitchen building for home games and other activities.
Although all children, regardless of home address or school district, are eligible under League by-laws to register and participate in Club activities, most players and cheerleaders reside in the Borough and/or attend East Petersburg Elementary School in the Hempfield School District. The school district, however, is not associated with the Club in any way and no school district property or facilities are used by the Club for practices or games. The school district provides no financial support to the Club.
Sports teach children discipline, toughness, and teamwork. It teaches kids respect for themselves, respect for the rules and respect for their opponent. Sports teach that nothing is simply given to you and that, instead, every success must be earned. Sports teach the value of practices and preparation. It teaches kids loyalty to their coaches, teammates and their community. It is both physically and mentally challenging. The Bulldogs DO NOT require "try-outs" in order for children to participate; all children who register are welcome!
Games are played on Sunday beginning with the "A" games at 1PM, followed immediately by the "B" and "C" games.
Please come out and support you local football team!
