Historical Society
The society was established in 1976. The purpose of the society is to preserve memorabilia from East Petersburg's past, and to make it available for the education of residents of the community. Community members are asked to help by donating journals, letters, relics, or any other materials, which enable the society to preserve the history of East Petersburg. Our monthly meetings are held the first Monday of the month (excluding January, February, June, July and September) and the public is invited to attend. In August we have a picnic at the community park in the pavilion. In December we have our Christmas party at the Gathering Place in Mount Joy. Details about the picnic can be obtained by calling 898-2918.
In 1994, the society purchased the Daniel Wolf house, located at the corner of State and Lemon Streets. Rehabilitation of the property is funded by donations from individuals and by fundraisers. The "gift shop" located in the Daniel Wolf House is open the first Saturday of each month from 9AM to 12 Noon. We sell wooden replicas of East Petersburg buildings, Dorothy Hollinger prints, crocks, stationary, afghans, plus other gift ideas. A new feature if used books sold in the gift shop.
In 1998 the society established the Anna Lucile Brackbill fund, which grants scholarships to a Hempfield High School graduating senior.
