In December 1992, a letter was received from Drew Nelson, solicitor in Dromore, Northern Ireland.  He wanted to know if there could possibly be a connection between Dromore, Northern Ireland and Drumore, Pennsylvania.  With great anticipation, a return letter verified the fact that Drumore Township was named for Dromore (Druim Moir, Great Rdige), a strongly fortified place in County Down, Ireland.  The Township account books used “Dromore” and Drommore” as the spelling from 1765 to 1800.  The twinning of the two was soon to be completed.  On March 3, 1993, the Board of Supervisors declared and proclaimed that the twinning between Dromore and Drumore should transpire.  A resolution was sent to the Banbridge District indicating such.

            Mr. Nelson visited Drumore Township in September 1993.  His visit was followed by a visit from a young adult church group led by David Meeke in July 1994.  Sent as ambassadors from the Township, Thomas Aaron, Chairman of the Drumore Township Supervisors, and his wife, Susan, ventured to Dromore, Northern Ireland in July 1995.

            Cumulating the twinning of Drumore and Dromore, 19 representatives from Drumore Township traveled to Dromore, Northern Ireland on June 16, 1996.  On June 19, 1996, the official twinning occurred in an elaborate ceremony at the Belmont Hotel.  While there, a room in the Dromore Town Hall was dedicated as the “Drumore Room” where all gifts from Drumore Township to the town of Dromore will be housed.

            Nineteen guests from Dromore visited us in September 1997.  A Community Evening was held in honor of our guests from Northern Ireland on September 14, 1997.  In June 1996 they had hosted a similar evening to share us with the people of Northern Ireland.

            In June 2000 we visited the people of Dromore.  They took us on day trips across the Emerald Isle and wined and dined us.

            July 2002 they came back over the Atlantic to visit with us for one week.  One of the highlights of their visit was a dinner with an Amish family.  Three Amish families opened their homes to us as we split the group of English and Irish into groups and spent the evening with our Amish friends.

            On June 28, 2004 we flew to Dromore, Northern Ireland to visit once again with them.  They took us on an overnight trip to the western part of the island.  We visited many interesting sites along with the Beleek factory.

               On July 1, 2006 they will arrive to visit with us.  Many intersting plans are in the making for the Tenth Anniversary of the twinning of Drumore and Dromore.

Legend of the Logo

            The Banbridge District Council held a “Design a Logo” competition in honor of the twinning of Dromore and Drumore.  Craig Hawthorn, a Kinallen Primary School pupil, was the lucky winner of the contest.

            The two D’s in the logo represent Dromore and Drumore, both intertwined and both going forward.
